With the weather cooling down in the UAE, the obvious thing to do is spend a lot more time outdoors. Now whilst the UAE may conjure up images of sand dunes and skyscrapers, it has so much more to offer to the adventurous road-tripper.

1.Jebel Hafeet, Al Ain
This is easily one of the most popular road trips to take in the UAE, given the location. Jebel Hafeet is the second tallest mountain in the UAE and the trip up the mountain is well worth it, with winding bends and turns and spectacular views of the Empty Quarter. Jebel Hafeet is just under 2 hours away from Downtown Dubai and Abu Dhabi City.
2. Hatta, Dubai
Often known as the most popular location for a visa run, this little town is a mere 90 minute drive from Dubai and has enough to keep you interested for a weekend if you feel like extending your stay. The Hatta Wadi Hub is a thrillseekers paradise with kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, paragliding, horseback riding and an adventure course, just to name a few!
3. Jebel Jais, Ras Al Khaimah
Jebel Jais is the highest mountain in the UAE and although the views from the top are absolutely spectacular; we find the journey to the summit to be equally exciting. When you get to the top, you can enjoy a variety of activities to awaken the adrenaline junkie within. We highly recommend the zipline which, although not for the faint hearted, is thrilling to no end! We also recommend making the trip early in the morning to catch the sunrise. You can thank us later.
4. Kalba, Sharjah
If you’re into ecotourism, Kalba is the place to be. Home to lush mangroves and a thriving ecosystem with rare wildlife, one can enjoy the tranquil surroundings while trekking and hiking through the area. Given the short drive from Dubai, Kalba is a refreshing take on ‘life in the desert’. There’s also plenty of heritage sites to visit in Kalba, guaranteed to be of interest to everyone.
5. Liwa, Abu Dhabi
For those wanting to enjoy long stretches of the desert, a trip to Liwa is just what you need. Liwa is about 2 hours from Abu Dhabi and whilst its location is remote, you can make your trip even more memorable with Shazza Streams!
