Eco-friendly driving: reducing your carbon footprint

Updated: Dec 1, 2023

We love the environment and we love our cars.

Sometimes it feels like they’re at opposites with each other.

But the world is changing and it’s changing fast.

The desire to live and drive in harmony with our surroundings has never been greater.

So at Shazza, we’ve prepared a guide to help you reduce your carbon footprint through eco-friendly driving - and without reducing the sheer fun of driving!

Choose fuel-efficiency, every time

You may choose to opt for hybrid or electric vehicles where you can but if those aren’t available, consider smaller, more fuel-efficient car models.

Look after your car

It sounds so simple. Regularly servicing your car helps keep it running in the best possible shape. You drastically reduce the risk of engine problems and fuel wastage. Seen those cars on the road billowing lots of black smoke from the exhaust? You don’t want that!

Lighten your load

Carrying excess weight in your car reduces how fuel efficient it is. We live in the wonderful city of Dubai where there’s all sorts of delivery options so you never have to worry about carting big loads yourself!

Plan your trips in advance

Combine errands and plan routes to reduce mileage. And whilst you may wish to save money by taking roads without Salik, we recommend choosing convenience instead - you may just use less fuel this way. Of course, if you can use Dubai Metro, Dubai Bus or Dubai Tram (or even the abra!), go for it - it could well work out better for you in the long run.

Drive with efficiency

What do we mean? A good start is to accelerate and brake smoothly, gently. We get it - sometimes you have to push the pedal to the metal or grind to a halt - but drive with mindfulness and you’ll need to do this a lot less often!

And lastly, while normally we’d say to limit AC use, it’s almost impossible to do this in Dubai! But in the cooler months (and if you can handle it), we suggest rolling down the windows and enjoying the breeze. We guarantee it’ll be a refreshing change and hey, less AC means better fuel efficiency!

By following these eco-friendly driving tips, you can reduce your carbon footprint, save on fuel costs, and contribute to a more sustainable environment.

Love your car, love Dubai, love Shazza!
